The Chick-Fil-A Nurse-In

  • Aug. 16th, 2009 at 9:56 AM

Yesterday, some central Florida mothers made their 15 minutes of fame by publically breastfeeding their babies at a local Chick-Fil-A restaurant. It all started because a young woman went there for lunch and started to breastfeed her baby at the table. A couple of other patrons complained (men, apparently) and then the restaurant manager told her to cover up or take it elsewhere, and the woman left. But she and several other mommies contacted the Chick-Fil-A and complained citing the law that indicates that women are free to breastfeed anywhere at any time. So Chick-Fil-A hosted a nurse-in where about 20 women came with their babies and breastfed in public.

Let the record show that I do not favor women breastfeeding their babies in public.

I am one of a few people who finds it just plain rude. Joe is another one. We have another friend who also finds it rather rude.

There are some objections that many people might make to my position, such as:

Objection 1: "You're just a prude!"

Ritual Studies Class

...went pretty well, but it was hot and the a/c wasn't working well. In Florida, this is a problem.

Joe taught pretty well, but he did do a little too much reading off of his notes. He needs to learn to not just stand up there and read.

Update

First, Bean passed away on the 12th. It still breaks my heart. I still expect her to hop up on the bed as soon as my light goes out at night, like she always did.

Urrgh

Things have changed in my life of late!

I've moved into a larger apartment. Yay!

My cat has cancer and is dying. BOOO!! She's so weak; I keep wondering when is the right time to take her in and let her go. She's 14 years old and has been such a wonderful companion to me. Arrrrrgh!

MG met today. Not much to report. Got some new books, though. Yay!

Here I Am!

  • Dec. 25th, 2007 at 8:15 AM

I've been kinda sick lately, fighting off a bad sinus infection. Ugh. Hopefully this will clear up soon.

We did our all-night vigil on the solstice and made it to sunrise. Then we had breakfast (cooked out on camp stoves) and went home and slept all day. LOL!

Today is Christmas. I'm feeling a little disgruntled about that, but hey.

Maybe I'll do some more beading today. I've been making rosaries for Frigga, but I have to get some prayers written for them. Hmmmmm.

Oh THIS is GOOD

It seems that the person I wrote of in the previous entry doesn't like the Celtic deities.

On July 4 2007, she posted to the wiccan community here some comments about them.

And the fur flew when she said they were evil.

I want to join the Society for the Prevention of Witchcraft being called Wicca!

I'm so thrilled to see Lady Isadora in on that, and since the 1970s to boot!

I sort of came to the conclusion on my own (based on minimal understanding of Anglo-Saxon) that it should be, in modern English, "witchcraft" and not "wicca."

Lots of people do not like hearing that, but evidence is piling up that this is so. I have no idea why people insist upon calling it "Wicca" and not "Witchcraft." Sometimes I really do think it's because the word "Witch" is just too scary even for many people currently involved in it. It may not scare THEM, but it might scare people they associate with. Well, Lady Isadora wrote a song about that; the lyrics of the song are here. Note the last verse, about "there's power in the word." The song rocks too; I had the tape it was on and played it to death. It's got Ygwie Malmsteen type of guitar on it that just kicks ass. As soon as her CDs are available I plan to order them, to replace the tapes of her music that I had and played to death.

Found some more bead supplies today. Made 3 rosaries: one Anglican, one Goddess, one 1 decade Roman Catholic. Plenty more are coming.

I need to write out the prayers for the runic rosary. That's what got this whole thing started. I noticed that runes are mysteries, like the 20 mysteries of the Roman Catholic rosary. The futhark can be incorporated into one's prayer life and meditations. I figured, why not put together a runic rosary?

I mostly use red beads for that, with blue or black as an accent color. For those who don't know, runes were traditionally stained in red when "activated" for magical work. And the light blue is one of the colors associated with ol' One Eye Himself, Odin Allfather, Who hung on that windy tree nine nights all, sacrificing Himself to Himself, and from whence He came by these truly great "runes" or mysteries of life. Well, actually he saw the glory twigs (shown here: clicky) but every last one of the elder futhark are in that figure.

When one does meditations on these runes, it's amazing how things unfold. Contrary to what many Christians might think, the elder futhark is not a collection of demonic symbols. This is everyday stuff, edified to the status of mysteries. For example, we're all experiencing raidho in our lives. We're all on some kind of path or journey.

So. Yes, there are specific prayers that would be used with the runic rosary. I have much of it worked out, but I'd like to create a nice little booklet to go with it. I'm a little slow on the history part, but maybe for the purposes of this I can just recommend other writers who are better at that than I am.

Meanwhile, I'm hungry. I need to chase down some foods.

St. Therese Sacrifice Beads

Lutherans doing Goddess prayers using Goddess rosaries??

Why, yes, actually. Check THIS out:

HerChurch

I'm completely tickled.

GOD I wish I could get the Episcopal church I've been going to into this kind of thing. But, I live in central Florida and it's fairly conservative here. I mean, come on - John Howe is our bishop. Eeeeep.

I really am thrilled to see some parts of the Christian world opening up to something more mystical and more inclusive.

Baby steps.

Hmmmm

I have to admit that I'm seriously considering retooling my Anglican rosaries into Goddess rosaries.

It'd be very easy for me.

Of course, I did just recently place an order for 100 wooden crosses, to attach to twine knotted chaplets (1 decade rosaries). Well, maybe I can just make those and give those away.

But there are challenges about doing pagan rosaries... )

Been A While..

  • Sep. 2nd, 2007 at 9:34 PM

...since I've posted here.

Well, I usually don't like LJ much because it just completely seizes my computer up.

I'm having a conniption here. About Nordic deities. Ye Gods, the information is out there - the Poetic and Prose Eddas, all the Icelandic sagas, all the mythos. It's not hard to find.

Frigga and Freyja are NOT the same deity. If they were, then why would Freyja say, in the Lokasenna, about Frigga that "Frigga knows the fates of all men though she speaks it not"?

There would be no point if Freyja and Frigga were the same deity. But they aren't.

Some Random Thoughts

I was reading a book about the English warrior queen Boudica this week, and I came to realize something. I hope I can find the words to describe this.
